I'm Peyton Priestly! WELCOME to Naked News. Before we crown this week's Boob, let's check in with Natasha Olenski for a "peek ahead" to this week's weather forecast! Are you heading off to battle, Nat?
Not exactly! This weekend is the 46th anniversary of Monty Python's Flying Circus' debut on BBC One. So to celebrate, I'm marking the occasion with a few of their FUNNIEST bits! Of course, the HARD part is going to be choosing which ones, since it seems like they're ALL hysterical. You'll see the picks in my Naked Weather Forecast. I will return with a shrubbery!
One that looks nice, I hope! Looking forward to it, Nat! But FIRST up today is our own Angie Heyward who's got a bone to pick with Facebook users.
You bet I do, Peyton. YET AGAIN, I logged on to find people forwarding and reposting all sorts of completely bogus stuff!
Oh, like "Facebook is going to charge you money to keep your profile private unless you forward this message"?
Exactly - and it drives me crazy. It's 2015. I can't believe people haven't learned not to take everything at face value.
Hey listen, I have friends who still get outraged at articles from The Onion!
Unbelievable right? And it keeps on happening. Here's the latest! Welcome, everyone. It's time to present our Boob of the Week. Today, it isn't a single person. It's EVERY person who posted the latest legal-sounding declaration to Facebook. I bet you saw it. "Pursuant to these articles of the code of intellectual property, I declare that my rights are attached to all my personal data, drawings, paintings, photos, video, texts, etcetera published to my profile and page. Yadda yadda yadda violation of my privacy is punishable by law and the Rome Statute yadda yadda yadda".
That's all nifty and self-righteous, but anyone with a brain SHOULD know that it's not worth the "control-V" it took to paste it. Facebook's terms and conditions - which were accepted by anyone who signs up to the site - supersede anything quasi-official sounding you post. The ONLY way to keep your photos, videos, and musings on politics and relationships completely private is to NOT POST THEM TO FACEBOOK.
I'd be much less frustrated about this if it wasn't for the fact that this EXACT SAME thing has been popping up on Facebook three times a year, for YEARS. It's been debunked over and over. And it's not just this one. There's "Share this and Bill Gates will send you a hundred dollars". Fake. And "All private messages will be made public to promote honesty". Fake. Oh, and EVERYTHING on The Onion is fake. And the fact I have to SAY that makes me want to scream.
It's not like this phenomenon is NEW, either. Remember all those emails your great-aunt sent you about AIDS-infected needles in payphones and Nostradamus predicting the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster? ALL BULLCRAP!
The basic rule EVERYONE should follow is to NEVER forward or copy-paste something without fact-checking it first. Remember, as Abraham Lincoln said way back in 1868, you can't believe everything you read on the internet. Anyone who believes THAT, or fell for the Facebook spiel AGAIN, is our BOOB of the WEEK. And THAT is one fact that DOESN'T need checking. For Naked News, I'm Angie Heyward.
I'm Katherine Curtis. Hurricane Joaquin battered the Bahamas Thursday and COULD hit the US East coast as early as this weekend. The storm has reached category 3 status and is expected to strengthen into a powerful category FOUR. Landfall is projected for anywhere between North Carolina and Southern New Jersey on Sunday. If Joaquin does hit the US mainland, it would be the first hurricane to do so in 15 months.
Three more women have come forward with allegations against Bill Cosby. One, a former cocktail waitress, says the comedian stole her panties after drugging and assaulting her in the 1970s. The new accusers join more than 40 others who claim Cosby plied them with drink and drugs before carrying out sexual assaults. Cosby is next scheduled to testify in a civil suit October 9th to answer questions relating to the alleged sexual abuse of a teenager.
And Congress approved a temporary federal budget, narrowly avoiding a government shutdown. The measure was hotly debated right up to the final vote, with Republicans wanting to strip out federal funding for women's health care before agreeing to the extension. Officials now have until December 11th to agree on a new budget. Conservatives say they'll push for more cash for the military Peyton, while the President is seeking additional spending on domestic programs.
Well, there should be a new speaker of the house by then so December should be interesting Kat. Thanks very much. Next, Eila Adams is going, Inside The Box, to reveal just how much advertisers pay for time on YOUR favorite shows.
Peyton, Sunday Night Football has been smashing ratings records so far this year, so it's no surprise the NBC broadcast scores big when it comes to advertiser dollars! SNF topped Variety's list of the priciest programs on TV, pulling in more than 637-thousand dollars for a 30-second spot. Fox's smash hit "Empire" came in a distant second at 521-thousand per spot, and they had a horde of hungry zombies nipping at their heels! AMC's The Walking Dead is still a ratings bonanza, generating 502-thousand dollar for a 30-second spot.
Maggie Gyllenhaal's heading back to the small screen! She's landed a leading role in the upcoming David Simon pilot for HBO, called "The Deuce". It's all about the seedy underworld of 1970's New York City, focusing on the beginnings of the mob-controlled porn industry in the Big Apple. Maggie will play a Times Square hooker with dreams of hitting the big time. She joins James Franco in what could become HBO's next big hit. David Simon of course is the mastermind behind critically acclaimed shows like "The Wire" and "Treme", so there's a lot of anticipation for this one.
How do you like THESE apples? Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are teaming up to produce a new HBO movie about the global water crisis! Details so far are pretty hard to come by, but we do know the film's title: "Thirst". Gets right to the point doesn't it? HBO President Michael Lombardo calls Matt and Ben two of Hollywood's most gifted filmmakers. No disagreements here!
Springfield's worst-kept secret is finally about to go public! After 26 seasons Mr. Burns' assistant Waylon Smithers Jr - or just Smithers as he's best known - is coming out of the closet! Simpsons executive producer Al Jean says the big reveal will be part of a two-episode arc in the show's 27th season. And not only that, but Smithers will have a bigger than usual role this year, because he's sick and tired of Mr. Burns taking him for granted. You show him, Smithers!
And X-Files fans rejoice! After 13 years the sci-fi series is coming back to Fox to fuel your paranoia! The truth is still out there, and Mulder and Scully are still trying to get it! The network has finally released an official trailer for the new season, and it looks VERY promising! I can't wait to see Mulder and Scully back together again, and thankfully the wait is almost over! The new season hits Fox airwaves on January 26th! I'm Eila Adams and that's what's happening, Inside The Box!
We're marking the 46th anniversary of the premiere of Monty Python's Flying Circus by taking a look at the group and some of their most HILARIOUS sketches in THIS EDITION of the Naked Weather Forecast!
Let's first get into a little Brainstorm Trivia! Of course we ALL know the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow, but do you know how the HEIGHT swallows fly at relates to the weather? Stay put for the answer!
Now, to the forecasts! Monty Python consisted of Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, and John Cleese. The group formed specifically to create the Flying Circus program for BBC One. The show only lasted four seasons and 45 episodes, but most people agree it changed the face of comedy forever! It was filmed at BBC One's studios in London, where this weekend will be partly cloudy with a high of 67 (19C)
One of the Pythons' best-loved bits is The Lumberjack Song. It's a brilliantly absurd sketch featuring a man who declares that he hates his job and always wanted to be a lumberjack. He's joined by a group of Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and they sing the praises of being a lumberjack... who likes to "put on women's clothing and hang around in bars". RCMP headquarters are in Ottawa, Canada, where it'll be cloudy and cool at 59 (15C).
1979's Life of Brian follows the titular character, who was born on the same day as, and next door to, the Messiah. He then spends his entire life being mixed up with Jesus. There are elements of farce and political satire, which drew protests. But it got rave reviews and was a box-office hit. People in Bethlehem will be able to "look on the bright side of life", as the weekend will be sunny with a high of 91 (33C)
And 1983's The Meaning of Life is hilarious. One of my favorite segments is from Part Three, Fighting Each Other. It's 1879 and the Anglo-Zulu war rages. An officer wakes up and discovers his leg has been bitten off. The sketch manages to be perfectly dry and perfectly ridiculous at the same time. In short, it's quintessential Monty Python and takes place in what's now KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where the capital of Pietermaritzburg will be sunny and 97 (36C)
NOW for the answer to our Brainstorm Trivia question! The height swallows fly at is directly related to temperature! In hotter weather, the warm air rises, pushing insects up with it. That means the swallows have to fly HIGHER for a meal. It's the exact opposite in cooler weather. So now you know!
And now, this Naked Weather forecast is no more! It has ceased to be! It's gone to meet its maker! It is an EX-Weather forecast!
If you subscribed to Apple Music when it launched, it's time to pay the piper! The streaming service's three-month trial run ended on Thursday, and if you forgot to UNsubscribe, Apple's just charged you ten bucks! If you REALLY don't want to pay you can contact Apple Support for a refund. Then again, the ten dollar monthly fee is pretty reasonable for access to the tech giant's 30 million track library. The company says it had 11 million subscribers on the trial version, but the real test will come over the next few weeks when we find out how many of them are willing to PAY for it.
Somewhere in southwestern Michigan a lucky person is sitting on the winning ticket for a 310 MILLION DOLLAR Powerball jackpot! Lottery organizers say the ticket was bought at a gas station in Three Rivers, but no one's claimed it - yet. Officials say that's not unusual. One of the last big winners didn't come forward for a MONTH, because she took some time to get a lawyer and financial planner lined up. The Powerball prize is the second largest in the country this year. Three people split a 564 million dollar jackpot in February.
And the longest postseason drought in North American sports is FINALLY over! Congratulations goes out to the Toronto Blue Jays, who clinched the American League East on Wednesday, and more importantly, ended their 22-year streak of NOT making the playoffs! Toronto has had an unbelievable run since the All-Star break, and now boasts the best record in the entire American League! That's thanks partly to the addition of some BIG name free agent acquisitions, including ace pitcher David Price and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki. Those are your headlines. For Naked News, I'm Katherine Curtis.
Thank you very much Kat! I've got some Viewer's Mail for you in the wrap up in just a few minutes but first Carli Bei is here to TURN IT UP with a story on how old-school vinyl RECORDS are making a surprising comeback!
Vinyl is HOT once again! A new report from the Recording Industry Association of America shows that sales of vinyl surpassed streaming services in the first half of 2015. Vinyl album and EP purchases exceeded more than 221 million dollars during the 6-month period, while streaming brought in just under 163 million. It's important to note that newcomer Apple Music wasn't included in the stats, so we could be looking at very different figures come the end of the year!
It looks like 2020 Presidential hopeful Kanye West is taking his political aspirations seriously. The rapper has agreed to perform at an upcoming fundraiser for the Democratic party. Tickets for the October 10th event in San Francisco will sell for between 250 and 10 THOUSAND dollars. In exchange for the cash, Kanye is expected to serenade the crowd - including the current President - with songs from his latest album, "Swish".
Step aside Taylor Swift! Lady Gaga has been named Billboard's 2015 Woman of the Year. The Poker Face singer will pick up her award during a ceremony celebrating Women in Music on December 11th. It's been a busy year for Gaga - she recently finished a 36-show tour with Tony Bennett in support of their collaborative jazz album "Cheek to Cheek". She'll also appear on the latest installment of American Horror Story when it premieres next month.
Last Sunday, Katy Perry was performing at Brazil's Rock in Rio Festival, and invited an excited fan on-stage. But she probably wasn't expecting what happened over the course of the next few minutes. The woman was obviously high on something and proceeded to awkwardly greet Perry, with kisses to the neck and generally groped her the entire time. Check out the clip! Perry handled it all with class and it actually turned into quite the funny few moments. The selfie that the woman took with Perry and posted later pretty much sums up the experience.
Finally today, our album review. This time out we're taking a look at Lana Del Rey's new release, "Honeymoon". If Lana could live at any time in history she'd almost certainly pick the 60's, and that theme continues to dominate her musical style. Honeymoon has a very chill and mellow vibe to it which has become her trademark sound, and she demonstrates it perfectly on the album's first single, "High By The Beach". Let's take a listen: It's easy to dismiss Lana as a sexy poseur, but the fact is that her songs are pretty catchy! Her latest release feels like she's really perfecting the musical niche she's carved out for herself. For that reason we're giving "Honeymoon" 4 out of 5 Naked Ns! For Naked News, I'm Carli Bei. Don't forget to keep TURNING IT UP!
Welcome to the wrap up everyone, Eila's joined me to to help address some of your feedback that's come in recently, like this first note from Adrian, who said
1 - the costumes from Body Body on Wednesday's show were all great. More please. And some views of the derriere just to see how nice the lingerie is off course. wink wink
Thank you, Adrian! He's talking about our wardrobe from Wednesday's program - it was all from a company called Body Body, and pretty sexy! You can check out their goodies at BodyBody.com
We're ALWAYs looking for theme ideas so if you have any, don't be shy and send them into us at
[email protected] All right this next email is from John in the UK. He asked
2 - Where is Andrea Sully have not seen her on the Naked News for a time has she left the show and will she be coming back?
The short and sweet answer, John, is that she's taking a bit of time off. She's got a busy modeling career right now and has been travelling quite a bit. Hopefully we'll see her back here soon.
I've got one here from Annabella. Love it when the ladies write in! She says
3 - I have subscribed off and on since 2005. Always a year at a time. Each time I quit subscribing I did send a message as to why I did not care for the way the show was heading. So this is the first time I have messaged you (when not leaving) and did so for one main reason. Please add Lydia. I love your lineup right now and feel Lydia can only add to it.
Well, thanks for being a long time fan Annabella and we're glad you're still with us. So Lydia, we received quite the response about her audition and I'm happy to report that, come Monday, you'll see her right back here at Naked News.
I'll actually be sitting down with her in Monday's wrap up to talk to her about the whole audition process so make sure not to miss it! Okay our final email today is from Dustin, and it cracked me up when I read it earlier, he says;
4 - your cameramen are really ugly and I don't know why you keep turning to them with camera 2
Gee, Dustin, tell us how you REALLY feel! The most important part of the other camera angle is, it's a view of our BUTTS, so you really need to ignore the camera guys back there in the shadows.
And FYI Dustin, I try to not look at them too, they can be really annoying! Thanks to everyone who wrote in! If YOU have a question or comment for us, you can email us at
[email protected].
You can also hit us up on social media. We're on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and don't forget our blog on the naked news home page.
Thanks very much for watching, take care everyone.
